MALC 24/7 Gym is now open!

Although MALC is already open seven days a week, we acknowledge there are lots of times that our gym members would like to come in outside our current hours, so we are working to make MALC gym 24/7.

This will allow members greater flexibility with their workouts and make MALC more in tune with the needs and wants of the community. As we know, exercise is medicine, so by removing the time barrier, hopefully this will help, encourage and motivate more people in the community to get on the good stuff.

As part of our 24/7 transition, members will be required to complete an induction process before being able to access the centre when staff are not available. The induction process will be run by our gym instructors at various times in the lead up to the 24 hour opening, and all members will need to attend one of these inductions (should only take between 5 & 10 minutes), after which you will receive your entry fob and then you will be able to come and go as you want. We will be advertising these inductions sections to all members with gym access, so please keep an eye out for these from February onwards.

With any new addition, we get lots of members and customers wanting to know what we are doing and what it will mean to them, so we have compiled some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) below.

If you would like any other further information not listed on our FAQ or are interested in becoming a member at Murray Aquatic & Leisure Centre, please call us on 9531 2000, join online or email us at and one of our staff will be in contact with you shortly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is MALC introducing 24/7 access to its gym?
Over the past few years the evolution of fitness in Australia has seen more and more facilities turning to 24/7 operations to reflect the needs and wants of society. With work hours now being well beyond the traditional Monday to Friday 9 – 5pm for many people, providing access for members at a time that fits in with their lives has become hard within our current operations. The transition to 24 hours will help many people to achieve the levels of exercise that helps support a healthy lifestyle.
What facilities will I have access to outside of regular staffed hours?
The facilities available include the gym and the toilet and change rooms adjacent to court 1. You will not have access to pools, group fitness studio or cycle studio. Although courts 1 & 2 will be in the area accessible by members, they will not be available for use due to safety reasons.
Which memberships include the ability to gain 24/7 access?
Pay24/7 access will be available to all MY Lifestyle & MY Choice Fitness members who have completed the members induction. Member will also need to be 18 years old.
What if I don’t want 24/7 access?
You don’t need to do anything. Just continue using your membership within the regular opening hours.
When will the gym go 24/7?
We are working to open the gym 24/7 in the second half of 2020. Once we have a firm date this will be communicated with all members via our website and Facebook page, as well as internally within the Centre.
Can the pools be used 24/7?
No, the pools cannot be used outside of staffed hours. There will be no changes to the opening times for the pools. The doors to the pool area will be locked as per the regular closing times to prevent access to the pools.
How will I gain access to the 24/7 gym?
Access out of staffed hours will be via the exit near the creche, with entry still through the main gym door.
Members wishing to use the gym outside of regular staffed hours will be required to complete a 24/7 induction. Induction times for existing members will be advertised in the lead up to the opening of the 24hours operations. All new members joining once the 24 hours is in operation will receive their induction at the time of joining if available or by appointment with one of our fitness staff at the earliest convenience.
What will be the Centre hours?
The Centre will be open:
  • Monday – Friday 6am – 7pm
  • Saturday / Sunday 8am – 12pm (3pm between December and February)
  • Public Holidays as advertised
What safety measures are in place for members using the facilities during non-staffed hours?
A CCTV security surveillance system is in place, monitoring all public areas.
A screen is situated on the inside of the 24 hour entrance door to view the surroundings before exiting.
Duress buttons will be provided in the following locations:
  • cardio area
  • strength training area by the gym door
  • accessible change room
Duress buttons will contact the control room who will arrange for emergency assistance. You will be able to talk to the operator through the base unit and request assistance as required.
Mobile duress pendants are available to be worn while working out or using the change rooms.
A first aid station, including a defibrillator, is provided in the gym.
The member induction process for 24/7 access ensures members understand and agree to comply with safety requirements and emergency procedures.
Some equipment will be allocated only as buddy equipment to help avoid injury.
Will the introduction of 24/7 access increase my membership fees, or is there an additional cost?
There will be no increases to membership prices related to 24/7 gym access for the 2020-2021 financial year.
What will happen if someone lets in a non-member?
Staff will regularly review footage and access reports to determine only members have been granted access. Every member must swipe their access fob upon entry so that their entry is recorded. A member who allows entry to a non-member could receive up to a $100 fine and/or have the membership suspended or cancelled.
Will there be any staff working outside of the current opening hours?
No, as is the case with other 24/7 health clubs, the Centre will not be staffed outside of regular opening hours. The current gym staffed hours are:
  • Monday – Thursday 6am – 10.30am & 3.30pm – 6pm
  • Friday 6am – 10.30am
  • Saturday 8am – 10am
Will the gym be inaccessible at any time?
If the Centre has a power failure, the entrance door will not allow access and all members inside the facility will be required to leave the facility. The gym will be accessible at all other times.
What if I can’t access the gym outside of staffed hours?
There could be a couple of reasons why this may be the case. This will most likely relate to money owing on your account and this will need to be resolved during normal Centre hours.
